Podiatry and Biomechanics

Victoria is our qualified HCPC registered Podiatrist who has a particular interest in the biomechanics of the feet. Podiatrists are health care professionals who have a special interest in disorders of the foot. They provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment on conditions affecting the foot and can also advise on footwear. Victoria can see patients for general foot care including diabetic foot checks, nail and skin care, corns, calluses, verrucae, athlete’s foot, cracked heels and bunions. She can also see patients who have rheumatoid arthritis in the feet or who have suffered a sports injury.

In addition to providing general foot care, Victoria conducts biomechanical assessments and has previously worked as a biomechanics specialist for the military. Biomechanics is the term given to how the weight bearing forces are transmitted through the foot. Sometimes excessive forces cause the feet to deform which can be seen as bunions, arthritic toes or ankle problems. The first indications of biomechanical problems in the feet may be thickened skin on the feet or an abnormal pattern of wear on the shoes. Following a biomechanical assessment, Victoria may recommend orthotics which are specially-made inserts for shoes that help to balance out the loadbearing in the feet. Victoria can also provide exercises and stretches when necessary to help manage your complaint.
