Winter Foot Care Tips: Keep your feet happy and healthy all season long.
As the winter rolls in, it is easy to neglect your foot care. The wintry weather, coupled with dry
indoor heating, can quickly turn your feet from soft and smooth to dry, cracked, and
uncomfortable. But don’t worry – with a few simple practices, you can keep your feet in great
shape this season. Here are five top tips to help you care and protect your feet this winter.
1. Moisturise Regularly
Winter air can be harsh and dry, leading to cracked heels and dry skin. Applying a moisturiser daily to
your feet, will help to prevent dry, cracked skin and provides a perfect opportunity to check over your feet
for any sores or cuts that may become infected. However, try not to moisturise between the toes as a
build-up of moisture can lead to fungal infections.
2. Stay Warm and Dry
Cold, wet feet are more prone to issues like fungal and bacterial infections, such as athlete’s foot. To avoid
this, always wash and dry your feet thoroughly, paying close attention to areas between your toes.
Keeping your feet dry is key to preventing skin irritation and infections. Always ensure your winter footwear is not only warm but also waterproof. Invest in good quality socks, preferably with moisture-
wicking and antimicrobial properties, to keep your feet dry and comfortable throughout the day.
3. Footwear
Winter boots should not only be stylish but also practical. Look for boots with good insulation, non-slip
soles, and wriggle room for your toes. Tight shoes can restrict circulation and lead to cold, painful feet.
Footwear should have a deep wide toe box, secure midfoot fastening, and a cushioned heel counter.
4. Foot Hygiene
Good foot hygiene is crucial, especially during the winter months. Wash your feet daily with warm water
and mild soap, making sure to dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes to help prevent fungal and
bacterial infections. Toenails need to be trimmed regularly to prevent ingrown nails and keep your toenails
clean and short.
* Top Tip. Difficult to reach to dry your feet???? use a hairdryer on a low heat. Great for making sure that
between the toes are thoroughly dry.
5. Exercise and Massage
Keep your feet flexible and blood flowing with regular exercise and massages. Simple foot stretches and
exercises can help maintain circulation and prevent stiffness. A foot massage can do wonders for your
circulation and overall foot comfort.
Remember, your feet work hard for you every day and giving them a little extra attention during the
colder months will pay off in the long run. Stay cozy and take good care of your feet this winter.
